About The Hipstery
I’ll be honest with you, I’m a fan of novelty. Fans of novelty will no doubt enjoy the Hipstery a very unique and a little strange, Mystery Shirts website. Run by a crack team of “t-shirt scientists” you pick your size, answer a goofy (but undoubtedly scientific) quiz about yourself and they pick you a shirt (add a shirt to the basket and head to the checkout to see). They have vaults of shirts from really great t-shirt sites, but you need to be brave for this one. They are based in Europe. Even if you aren’t into the concept, its worth checking out for the branding (1950s comic book ad style) and funny/strange texts. They also stock shirts from a number of the one day one shirt sites, so there’s a chance you’ll get that old Teefury shirt you’ve been hankering for.
Shirts: €16
Shipping: €3.50 flat fee for Europe, €6 flat fee rest of the world.

The Hipstery is a novelty concept t-shirt store, akin to a “grab bag” shirt you might find on another site. The idea is that you take a humorous quiz which is utilized to select a t-shirt design that you might like. (Note that there is a question about the color of the shirt. It is worded to make you select shirt colors that you would NOT want. So be sure to read all of the text very carefully.) You select your size, take the quiz, and check out. Then you play the “waiting game” and pray you get a cool shirt.
Since the site is based in Europe, I was a little hesitant to pay €17 plus €4 shipping, but I figured “what the heck?” After all, their site is all about “fun”.
The shirt arrived in a paper envelope printed with a large colorful question mark. Shipping took a couple of week from Europe to Illinois. Inside the envelope, there was a shirt PLUS a bunch of little funny bonus items. The receipt contained a humorous note asking about Greyhound buses in the USA, and a short “About Your Shirt” writeup. Also included were a pair of 3D blue/red glasses, a couple of old black and white photos of random people from the 50s, a funny postcard of a kitten with German text, and a 45 rpm single of “Mister Green” by Karel Gott. (I have no idea who he is, but the song is quite cheesy.)
The actual shirt I received was “Crazy Mixed Up Kids” by Rockwell (http://shop.rockwellclothing.com/viewItem.asp?idProduct=589). I had ordered a Large, but they sent me a Medium, which turned out to be okay since the Rockwell shirts run large. Their Medium was the same size as an American Apparel Large.
All in all, it is a fun concept. Judging from the “Journal” entries on their site, they do allow for exchanges if you really don’t like the shirt you get. I’m pretty happy with my shirt, so I think I’ll keep it.
