About The Dept.
The Dept. is an independent brand based out of Los Angeles. All of the shirts are created and printed by a single man, designer Richard Leighton. Impressive! It’s always awesome to see how far these one-man companies come, and if the large press/review list is any indication, The Dept. has come a long way.
The Dept. shirts have a science-fiction/android-based theme. The style is minimalistic, cute and cartoony, but in the best way possible. “Androids always win!” is their tagline and is printed on every shirt. Throughout the designs, you can catch references to sci-fi productions like Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica. In addition to tees, The Dept. offers a really neat tote bag design and colorful buttons featuring their graphics.
